JCTEF Transformation Program Cohort 1: Building Relationship Capital Through Networking
Session date: 19 September 2026
“Your network is not just about the number of people you know. It is about the quality of relationships you build.”
On 19 September 2026, our JCTEF Transformation Program Fellows explored Relationship Capital & Networking, a session facilitated by Tamunoemi Abraham and centred on one of the skills that can significantly influence how we grow personally, professionally and in business: the ability to relate with people.
Beyond the Number of People You Know
Networking is often viewed simply as meeting more people or having a large number of contacts.
But building a meaningful network goes beyond numbers.
One of the important ideas explored during the session was value exchange.
Genuine relationships are not built simply by asking, “What can this person do for me?”
They grow when we learn to contribute value, support others, share knowledge, create opportunities and build trust.
A strong relationship is not only about what we can receive. It is also about what we can contribute.
Starting Small
We also discussed the importance of starting small.
For someone who struggles with timidity or confidence, building a strong network does not have to begin with a room full of strangers.
It can begin with a small community.
As you participate, communicate, contribute and connect, your confidence can grow and your circle can expand.
Networking does not always require a big introduction or a large event. Sometimes, it begins with a simple conversation, a willingness to participate, or the decision to contribute to a community around you.
Building Strategic Relationships
Another important part of the session was the idea of strategic relationships.
Strategic relationships are relationships built intentionally around shared interests, growth, collaboration, learning and opportunities.
This does not mean approaching people simply because we want something from them.
Rather, it means recognising the value of meaningful connections and intentionally building relationships where people can learn from one another, collaborate, share opportunities and grow together.
The right relationships can give us access to knowledge, collaboration, mentorship, opportunities and new possibilities that we may not encounter alone.
Connecting, Contributing and Growing
At JCTEF, we believe transformation is not only about what you know or what you can do.
It is also about your ability to connect, contribute and build meaningful relationships with people.
As people grow, the relationships they build can become an important part of their personal and professional development.
This is why Relationship Capital is an important part of the JCTEF Transformation Program. We want our Fellows to understand that growth does not happen in isolation. Learning from others, contributing to communities and building healthy relationships can create pathways to opportunities and collaboration.
Another Saturday of Learning and Growth
The Relationship Capital & Networking session was another opportunity for our Fellows to learn, reflect and think more intentionally about how they relate with people and build their networks.
From self-discovery and emotional intelligence to mental fitness and now relationship capital, the Cohort 1 journey continues to explore different dimensions of personal and professional development.
Another Saturday of learning, reflection and growth with our Fellows. 🤝🏽
Transformation precedes empowerment.
